I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for featuring the article, "One Family's Struggle With Sickle Cell Disease" (July 2006). I have a 10-year-old son who suffers from this debilitating disease, and it has not been an easy journey. I often become frustrated because of he lack of awareness associated with families who struggle with Sickle Cell Disease. It amazes me that more African-Americans are not involved with raising awareness for this disease that affects so many of us.
