Conserving Afghanistan's biodiversity is an important step in moving the beleaguered nation toward a sustainable future, according to the New York-based Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, WCS and the government of Afghanistan are working to establish the country's first official system of protected areas.
