MACASSAR Pavilion, once a popular spot for thousands of Cape Flats beachgoers, is now deserted, in disrepair and lending itself to criminal activity.

A collapsed facade, smashed windows and caved-in ceilings are among the ugly signs of neglect that greet visitors to the once-beautiful beachfront building.

"There is not even a decent toilet," Blackheath resident Stanley Schlosz said. "This used to be such a lovely place to spend the day with family and friends and it is sad to see what has happened.
