Q. I've heard that brewer's yeast is very healthy. What's so nutritious about it and how can I use it?
A. Brewer's yeast, a light-brown powder with a slightly salty, earthy taste, is a byproduct of beer and ale brewing.
Nutrition-savvy vegetarians know it as one of the few nonanimal sources of vitamin B12. It's also an excellent source of the B complex vitamins thiamin, niacin, riboflavin and folic acid. And brewer's yeast supplies respectable amounts of minerals, including iron, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium.
