The US department of agriculture (USDA) is due to pay out only around 20% of what it had promised to Kansas cattlemen for drought relief due to a recently-discovered error in the administrative process, the Associated Press reports.

In calculating the amount of aid due for Kansas, USDA officials had accidentally included the numbers of feedlot cattle for Kansas, Wyoming and Arizona. The mistake was noticed on Friday last week.

The USDA will now pay out around US$948 511 instead of the promised $4.78 million from the overall $50m federal aid package aimed at helping ...
