Sep. 20--Six-year-old Ashley Caban was jumping rope outside her Reading home when a bullet hit her in the left shoulder.
The .38-caliber slug remains lodged in her left lung.
"It is only by the grace of God that Ashley was not more seriously injured," Berks County Judge Paul M. Yatron said Tuesday before sentencing Carlos Aviles to eight years and four months to 23 years in state prison for firing the shot that hit Ashley on March 10.
