Avitus Ripp and Chuck Coulthart combined to devote 87 years of their lives to high school sports. And that was after they were high school stars themselves.

But we lost more than that with the passing last week of Ripp, the longtime prep football coach at Richland Center, and Coulthart, the longtime athletic director at Whitewater.

We lost two wonderful men whose willingness to share their spirit, personality and time -- each for more than four decades -- touched hundreds of coaches, athletes and fans.
