BY including the above remarks in his scholarly lecture at the German university where he used to teach, Pope Benedict XVI incurred the wrath of Islamic scholars and leaders everywhere.
The Vatican quickly apologized by pointing out that the papal lecture was taken out of context, but a careful reading showed that the Pope's aside itself was out-of-context in his dissertation on the modern "dehellenization" - the modern disjunction - of faith and reason.
