Sep. 14--United Way of Berks County needs to average about $1 million a week during its nineweek fundraising campaign to reach the $8.6 million goal.

The nonprofit organization officially began that effort Wednesday, and campaign Co-Chairman Jay S. Sidhu announced that $1.2 million has been raised already.
