A new chemical storage code created by the National Fire Protection Association could force businesses to undergo expensive renovations.

The code in question, NSPF 400, is being compiled from a number of other codes to create a new, streamlined document and eliminate inconsistent language.

"There is really nothing new in there," said Carl Rivkin, principal chemical engineer for Quincy, Mass.-based NFPA. "All of this has already appeared in some other document or code."
