Every time an ambulance or a fire truck goes by Kurt Hoffman's home near Sand Point this summer, the howling starts.

And one afternoon last week, Hoffman said, he found four coyotes sleeping in the backyard.

"You think, we're no more than 15 minutes from downtown Seattle," he said.

He's not alone. Around the city, including West Seattle, Capitol Hill and the Washington Park Arboretum area, coyotes have been seen on asphalt streets and heard in neighborhoods where car alarms - not howls - are usually ...
