Recruitment patterns and precautionary exploitation rates for Geoduck (Panopea abrupta) populations in British Columbia.

ABSTRACT An age-structured projection model was used to study the impacts of alternative exploitation intensities on geoduck populations, based on a large accumulation of survey data, age composition data and published estimates of natural mortality. Data were analyzed and results presented by geographic region. Historic recruitment patterns were back calculated using an age-structured model. Trends in recruitment were independent of the value of M used, although rates were higher w...

Fishery Bulletin ; Blue marlin (Makaira nigricans) represent an important commercial and recreational resource throughout tropical and subtropical oceanic waters. In the Atlantic Ocean, blue marlin are managed as a single, oceanwide stock. In the most recent assessment of Atlantic blue marlin (ICCAT, 2001), the
Yellowfin sole, Pleuronectes asper, of the Bering Sea: biological characteristics, history of exploitation, and management.
Marine Fisheries Review ; Introduction Yellowfin sole, Pleuronectes asper, of the family Pleuronectidae (Fig. 1), is the second most abundant flatfish in the North Pacific Ocean and is the most abundant species of groundfish in the eastern Bering Sea after walleye pollock, Theragra chalcogramma. Yellowfin sole inhabits
Yield-per-recruit analysis for black drum, Pogonias cromis, along the East Coast of the United States and management strategies for Chesapeake Bay.(Statistical Data Included)
Fishery Bulletin ; Abstract--Black drum, Pogonias cromis, along the U.S. East Coast is subject to commercial and recreational harvest. However, prior to this study no modeling had been undertaken to examine the potential for overfishing in the Chesapeake Bay region. We present evidence from yield-per-recruit models
Stock-rebuilding time isopleths and constant-F stock-rebuilding plans for overfished stocks.(Statistical Data Included)
Fishery Bulletin ; ABSTRACT--Stock-rebuilding time isopleths relate constant levels of fishing mortality (F), stock biomass, and management goals to rebuilding times for overfished stocks. We used simulation models with uncertainty about [F.sub.MSY] and variability in annual intrinsic growth rates ([r.sub.y]) to
