SAN FRANCISCO -- Texas thrift operator Gerald J. Ford, scrambling to finance his bid for Ford Motor Co.'s First Nationwide Financial Corp., has received a commitment form financier Ronald O. Perelman to put up most of the capital.
As bidding for San Francisco-based First Nationwide neared a Monday deadline, people familiar with the matter said Mr Perelman had agreed to provide more than agreed to provide more than 80% of the quality stake for Mr. Foird's bid, which is expected to total nearly $1.1 billion.
