Daring World War I, a young American painter named Frances Simpson Stevens found her way into the inner circle of Italy's Futurist movement, exhibiting alongside some of the most advanced European artists of the day. While only a single painting by her is known to have survived, recently discovered photographs, exhibition records and other clues now make possible a rough account of her career.
