PROVENCE is the place to go along the south coast of France if you're after a bit of sun and glamour and don't mind paying a hefty price. But if you don't own a yacht or have no desire for an ageing rock star as a temporary neighbour, there is an alternative - the Languedoc.
This wild but idyllic province stretches from the borderland foothills of the Spanish Pyrenees to the mouth of the Rhone river. Until recently it has remained the south's "best-kept secret" - a shame, as it offers the opportunity for a truly memorable family holiday.
