SCOTLAND'S lucrative shellfish industry is facing a potentially devastating threat from an alien seaweed growing at an 'alarming' rate along the west coast.

The Pacific Sargassum muticum has been discovered in Loch Fyne, Argyll, home of the world-famous oysters, causing panic among producers of one of Scotland's most valuable exports.
