Aug. 27--William Russell Gates, age 91, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Alfredo Gonzales Nursing Home. He was born in Bethel, Oklahoma on October 26, 1914. He graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas and went to work for Montgomery Ward. He served honorably in the Navy in World War II aboard the USS Aldebaran from 1942 to 1945. After his discharge, he moved to Kansas City, where he married and raised three sons. He was president of Gates Business Papers, and sold his business to SCM Corp. He continued to work for SCM, ...
