Researchers at the Agricultural Research Service have produced a sticky trap to reduce boring insects that infest mint fields. The trap uses a synthetic pheromone, or sex scent, to lure male insects. Similar traps have been developed to catch crown borers in beet fields. The traps can help replace more toxic pesticides and serve as an easy way to tell whether the borers have begun to infest a field.
