A HILLWALKER bitten by an adder was recovering in hospital last night after suffering a severe allergic reaction.
Robert McGuire is understood to have gone into anaphylactic shock - a potentially fatal reaction that closes air ways and can cause vital organs to shut down - after being bitten by Britain's only poisonous breed of snake.
The incident happened while the 44-year-old was walking on Goat Fell, Arran, on Saturday. He was brought off the hillside by the area's mountain rescue team.
