Lake Balaton in south-west Hungary, 90 minutes' drive from the capital Budapest, is the country's most popular tourist resort. It's known as the 'Hungarian sea' - at 50 miles long it's the largest freshwater lake in Europe.
Traditionally popular with visitors from Slovakia, Croatia and Germany, the resort is now attracting British and Irish investors keen to capitalise on the property boom since Hungary joined the EU in 2004.
