No wonder everyone was excited. It was an R800-million investment, and Gauteng Education MEC Angie Motshekga was able to announce that even disabled learners would benefit from the province's ambitious online programme.

Now Motshekga has laid down the law and ordered a detailed report on the state of security in schools amid serious concerns that this massive investment has been severely compromised, even as plans continue to meet the demands of the third year of online rollout.
