Aug. 14--ALTON -- A house once owned by a U.S. senator from Alton continues to be the target of a man wanting to establish a research facility dedicated to newspaper martyr Elijah P. Lovejoy, but he faces difficult financial and zoning hurdles to make it a reality.
History enthusiast Richard Baird says such a center could be focused not only on Lovejoy, but on Abraham Lincoln and the senator, Lyman Trumbull.
