Aug. 13--For the first time in nearly 150 years, calling Joliet a prison town would be just plain wrong, city officials contend. The last violent sex offenders housed at the former Joliet Correctional Center Annex left Monday, making it the first time since the mid-19th Century that the city was not home to adult felons under state lock and key.
