Aug. 9--The Odessa City Council Tuesday unanimously approved a proposal to establish a tax rate of 62.9 cents per $100 valuation -- a 5 cent reduction from this year's rate -- and set public hearings for Aug. 22 and Sept. 12.

Director of Finance James Zentner told the council if the rate is eventually set at that amount, it will mark the seventh time the city council has lowered the Odessa tax rate in the last 32 years.

At that amount, Zentner said, the tax rate will raise $16,437,738. The current tax rate of 67.9 cents raised $15,894,000, ...
