Aug. 5--SARATOGA SPRINGS, n.y. -- It seems a bit poetic that trainer Dan Hurtak would make his first trip to Saratoga Race Course with a former claimer.

Hurtak, who has been training horses in South Florida for more than 30 years, made one of racing's most memorable claims in 1985 when he claimed the filly Spirit of Fighter from her racing debut for $30,000. The filly would win 33 races and nearly $850,000.
