The Ch'eng-Chu school of Sung Learning during the early Ch'ing period, exemplified by the philosophy of Li Kuang-ti, responded to Ch'ing concerns for practicality while maintaining continuity with earlier Confucian thought. Major concerns of the early Ch'ing period, which were reflected in the thought of Li Kuang-ti, included the ontological primacy of the goodness of human nature ('hsing'), 'hsing' as the basis for action and a monistic conception of 'hsing.'
