The UN is concerned about the escalating military crisis in the former Yugoslavia that is hindering humanitarian relief efforts. Although some UN operations have had to be suspended, the UN Security Council continues to work towards finding a peaceful end to the conflict.

Tragedy in the former Yugoslavia continued to "drain the attention, resources, and emotion of the international community", Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali reported on 10 September.
