The Stark Law is a state regulation which sets guidelines in cases involving physician referrals of patients to hospitals where he is financially dependent. The law sets rules against the management of patients as commodities. This ethical issue has also been the subject of support given by the American Hospital Assn in pushing for amendments that will enhance medical cooperation in health care networks.
