NEW VAN GOGH DIRECTOR The Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, has appointed Axel Ruger as its new director. The post also encompasses the Mesdag Museum in the Hague, the collection of nineteenth-century Dutch and French paintings owned by marine painter Hendrik Willem Mesdag (1831-1915). Ruger (left) is currently curator of Dutch Paintings at the National Gallery, London, a post he has held since 1999.
