When E. G. Boring wrote the first edition of "A History of Experimental Psychology" (1929), the "new" experimental psychology of the 1890s--if taken to have begun with Fechner's Elements of 1860 and Wundt's Beitrage of 1862--was only 70 years old (Boring, 1929, Preface).
