    With the ``reconnaissance in force'' turned into a secure lodgement on Los Negros in the Admiralties, the next step was to expand the American position by invading the neighboring island of Manus. About 900 Japanese troops were garrisoned on Manus around Lorengau village just opposite the entrance to Seeadler Harbor.
