Jul. 16--SAN ANTONIO -- As the legend goes, it's a love story carved in stone. The problem with legend, of course, is that facts are rarely allowed to get in the way.
Around 1780 in Spanish Texas, we're told, Pedro Huizar fashioned the intricately carved stone flowers of San Jose Mission's Rose Window in memory of his dead wife, Rosa. The problem was that, at the time, his wife's name was Maria. And she was very much alive.
