MPD recruiting aimed at SDF, grads.

Jul. 11--TOKYO--The Metropolitan Police Department plans to recruit former Self-Defense Forces personnel and professional soccer players in a bid to fill vacancies left by the wave of retirements of the postwar baby boomers.

Starting this autumn, the MPD will conduct recruiting campaigns on SDF bases and the training camps of J-League teams to encourage outgoing personnel to take police officer exams.

The percentage of those who take the exams that are hired by the MPD peaked at 18 percent in 1999, but fell to 6.7 percent in 2005.
