US hard wheat export prices rose this week to their highest levels in a decade as heatwaves and droughts continued to knock bushels off prospective yields in the prime spring bread-wheat regions of North and South Dakota.

Recently facing temperatures close to 100 [degrees]F (38 [degrees]c) and a lack of rain in the critical grain-heading stage, Northern Plains spring crops may now produce less than markets have factored in, despite a 745m acre increase in the planted area estimated by USDA at the end of last week.
