Let me say at the outset that I am not knowledgeable about fossils, which is not to say that I have not always found them fascinating. I just do not collect them. In fact, up until very recently I had not attempted to field collect fossils since I was an undergraduate geology major in college. However, when the Pennsylvania Geological Survey published an article about a fossil trilobite and starfish site only about 65 miles from my home (Reese, Lutz, and Shaulis 2004; Huizing 2005), I could not resist checking it out, and I am glad that I did.
