Jul. 7--MASSENA -- One of the St. Lawrence River's first carp entrepreneurs is calling it a career after nearly 20 years in the angling business.

British transplant Bernie L. Haines plans to sell the Golden Salmon Ranch, 170 S. Raquette River Road, and all of his fishing equipment within a month. Mr. Haines said he made the decision to retire after his wife and business partner, Aline, died last fall.

"It was a two-person business," he said. "I can't do it without her. I wouldn't want to do it without her."
