Hit films equals hit videogame? Not! (videogames patterned after popular movies rarely repeat movie's success)

It seems natural that games based on popular movies would repeat the success of their celluloid predecessors. But distributors, retailers and game developers say videogames based on hit films rarely five up to the movie in terms of quality and sales.

"Most games based on movies are terrible," said one distribution executive. "They ride on the coattails of movies, but they can't fool the players."
