Music theory is dominated by discourse which fits the male role model of dispassionate abstraction. Discourse which deals with personal experience is considered feminine and marginalized. This hurts music theory and alienates music theorists from valuable musical experience. Male feminists' or women's discourse about music could surpass the male hierarchy which devalues experience, but this project will occur against the aspirations of mainstream theorists who could also be women.
