We may not all be religious, but we all have something to be thankful for.
So on Thanksgiving Day, America will find itself saying grace.
We'll say it with moments of silence and long, flowery prayers. We'll say it in murmured words from old countries and ancient remembrances. We'll embellish familiar graces especially for the day, when guests come to share our meal. Some will sing, or weep, or smile as they chant traditional prayers and remember those no longer with us. Others will ad-lib awkward words of thanks to Whoever might be up there, listening.
