THE fictional Sir Percy made his name during the French Revolution by swooping late to save assorted noblemen from the guillotine in his secret guise as the Scarlet Pimpernel.

His equine namesake encounters a very different set of French aristocrats in front of 100,000 people at Epsom tomorrow, but Marcus Tregoning's star colt can rise to the occasion by fending off the challenge of the much-vaunted Visindar in an absorbing Vodafone Derby.
