WABCO'S ELX empty/load system was successfully tested on an APC 100-ton 5-well double stack late in 1992. During the test, several unexplainable wheel flat spots developed while the car was enroute from Oakland, where the test equipment was installed, to the test site about 40 miles away. The wheels had been unmarked when last inspected in Oakland. During the test the ELK worked exactly as designed, so malfunctioning empty/load was eliminated as a factor.
