What's happening is reminiscent of the closing scene of The Waltons when the lights in the farmhouse on Walton Mountain are extinguished one by one: "Good night, Oregon," "Good night, Rutgers," "Good night, Case Western," "Good night, Chicago," "Good night, Columbia," "Good night, UCLA."

The nation's library schools are shutting down and, what is weird, objection is mostly passive and local. Mourning is not universal.
