IT must be the cleverest item of clothing ever designed - a T-shirt that can instantly keep track of a person's vital signs.

The shirt will record the wearer's movement, heart rate, breathing and energy use - and can even be fitted with a GPS system to detect a person's location.

The information can then be beamed to a computer several hundred yards away and from there on to any other location.

It could have a variety of uses, from keeping track of an athlete's condition during a race to monitoring emergency workers on dangerous sites.
