The deadline for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco to either accept or veto McMoRan Exploration's proposed Main Pass LNG terminal is May 7, but staff members say a decision will likely be announced before the weekend.
Federal rules also allow the governors of Alabama and Mississippi to have a say in whether the terminal can be built.
McMoRan Exploration has proposed building an LNG receiving terminal at Main Pass Block 299 at the site of a former sulfur mining plant, about 37 miles to the east of Venice, Louisiana. To be located atop a salt dome, the terminal ...
