British commitments to the Arabs and their application to the Palestine-Trans-Jordan boundary: the issue of the Semakh Triangle.

The Semakh Triangle became a point of contention as the British attempted to draw the boundary between Trans-Jordan and Palestine beginning in 1915. The British were trying to balance different promises they had made to the Arabs and Jews. The Semakh Triangle could have been a part of Palestine based on the boundaries established under the Ottoman empire. However, perhaps due to time pressures, the area was omitted from Palestine when the boundary was drawn by Sir Herbert Samuel for the League of Nations in 1922.
