Tortoises to get new digs: The move is going slowly for crews trying to relocate 50 gopher tortoises from a DeFuniak Springs site.

May 25--DeFUNIAK SPRINGS -- It's moving time for a colony of 50 gopher tortoises that is being relocated from a construction site near the new Walton County Jail to a conservation area near Freeport.
The tortoises, which live upland in underground burrows, are classified as a "species of special concern" by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The FWC is expected to upgrade the tortoise to a "threatened" species sometime next month.
