RICHMOND - Alexander Lee Nyerges was named the new director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on Thursday.

Nyerges, 49, has headed the Dayton Art Institute in Ohio since 1992. He plans to start at the Richmond museum on Aug. 1 .

He will replace Michael Brand, who left late last year to be director of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
