A flight from Luanda, the capital of Angola, to Khartoum in the Sudan would take you over the lush Congo River Basin of Zaire, as well as some of the most dangerous airspace in the world. Since 1978, the skies over Angola and Sudan have been the scene of 11 handheld, surface-to-air missile attacks on civil aircraft. Excluded from this total are attacks on military transports engaged in civil missions and any against helicopters.|1~
