May 20--More than 130 years after the Molly Maguires, a 19th century group of rebellious Irish mine and railroad workers, were convicted of murder and hanged, the state Legislature has passed resolutions saying they were unfairly tried by industry owners and hirelings who used strong anti-Irish sentiment of the times to urge convictions.
The question of whether the Mollies got fair trials is crucial to a case before the state Pardons Board seeking to clear the name of John "Yellow Jack" Donahoe, a Molly hanged for murder in Jim Thorpe in 1877. ...
