May 18--Las Cruces-area farmer Dino Cervantes is among many who are casting a worried eye on next year's federal agriculture budget.

He's alarmed because President Bush's funding proposal lacks money for a local cotton research laboratory many farmers say is important to the area's ag economy. The lab, run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, works to improve technology for harvesting and processing cotton and chile, among other activities.
